What is the NETAS Altilium?
The 9-Tech Solutions’ NETAS Altilium™ stands for (Null Emissions Technology, Applied Systems Battery) modules are behind-the-meter hydrogen refuellers, designed to store electrical energy generated from renewables and from the grid. They utilise renewable energy to produce hydrogen from the process of electrolysis and store it as a liquid cryogen for hydrogen vehicles in commercial use.
These modules operate at high systems-efficiency to produce hydrogen with thermal recapture and monetisation in what can be considered a combined heat & storage (CHS) approach, thus ensuring a high efficiency fossil fuel (FF) alternative. Through their operation, these modules are designed to provide demand-side management (DSM), balancing the power network and facilitating further efficiency improvements in the production of electricity.
They can – at volume scale – provide a solution to the intermittency of wind and solar energy by providing a dispatchable load, independent of hydrogen consumption in what we refer to as INTEGRATED DSM. With (i-DSM) the electricity network is returned to a one-way generation system i.e. no feed-in. Improving frequency and voltage control and backfilling diurnal generation peaks on the grid network known as “duck curves”.
The NETAS Altilium™ modules can be networked, incorporating the use of grid and off-grid energy generation sources. They operate as storage and supply whilst providing hydrogen production and integrating it into business operations and ultimately domestic uses. By not adopting the ‘Service Station Model’ (SSM); distribution, wholesaling and retailing costs are removed, providing a more realistic cost for hydrogen at A$3/kg (~92 cpl diesel less rebate) instead of A$10+/kg hydrogen. ($3+/L diesel equivalent)
These modules will provide consumers the ability to ‘nominate’ via an app a weekly required volume of hydrogen for that period and provide the network operator guidance. These nominations will provide an energy budget for network operators, ensuring reliably accessible storage the moment it is required throughout the week. The NETAS Altilium™ also has the capacity to replace bulk thermal-electrical loads in households such as kettles, ovens and gas cook tops and HVAC appliances. Reducing the peak demand for grid energy by separating the human-use component of energy from immediate grid response.
